Steer Calf Feed Lot Performance:
The steer calves produced by our cattle are normally fed at McLean Feedyards, Inc. in McLean, Texas. Our steers normally gain 3.1 to 3.4 pounds per day and have a very high dry matter conversion ratio of about 5.8.
The excellent daily weight gain of our cattle and our dry matter conversation rates improve the economics of our fed steers. Buyers for the packers normally do pay a slight premium for our Hereford/Angus based cattle as they believe they will be scored higher by USDA inspectors. We have found that by retaining ownership of our steers through the conclusion of the feedyard process nets us an additional $100 to $150 per head in net cash flow.
